Down to Earth Garden Club charity plant sale

I look forward to attending the Down to Earth Garden Club’s charity plant sale next Saturday. All proceeds are given to local earth and habitat-related charities.

When: May 13th, 2023; 9:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M.
Where: Centenary Church (Main Gym), 2800 Tates Creek Rd., Lexington, KY 40502

They will have a wide variety of plants – including native plants and shrubs, flowers, vegetables, etc. like wild geraniums, one of my favorite early spring wildflowers (photo below). For a partial list of plants, visit their website. Note: they only accept cash or checks.

This year, with my permission, they will be also be selling boxes of my native Butterfly Note Cards (photos of eight native Kentucky butterflies) and my Butterfly Card Game.

Visit the butterfly house at Luna’s

A friend and I had a fun outing last week to the butterfly house at Luna’s Coffee, Wine and Butterfly Farm at 109 Springdale Drive, Nicholasville, KY 40356.

A bed of brightly colored zinnias leads to the butterfly house which is just outside the café.

When we walked in, the many monarchs immediately caught our attention – especially the two that were mating. I was impressed to learn that the owner, Web Barney, has already released 50 monarchs this year!

Plant Sale – this Saturday, May 7th

I’m looking forward to the Down to Earth Garden Club’s 2022 plant sale this weekend.

It has been the source of several of my native plants over the years, including these Ostrich Ferns in this recent photo from our backyard.
