Betty's Biography

Betty Hall, photographerI got my first 35 mm camera at age 61, wanting to capture some of what I saw while hiking. Twelve years later, I'm using a digital camera and my goal is much the same. I consider photography my third age passion. I'm grateful to have a third age and a passion to go with it.

My life long interest in nature and the environment, led me to photography. In turn, photography led me to butterflies which led to raising them and redoing our backyard with Kentucky native plants. Most of my photography is done close to home.

Where to see my work

I have  created a line of notecards, which are sold both wholesale and retail. I am a volunteer photographer for The Lexington, Kentucky Arboretum, one of our local treasures, and am pleased that my images can help others know about this special place.

I exhibit locally, in both one-artist exhibits and group exhibits and have participated in numerous local art fairs. I am an active member of The Kentucky Womens' Photography Network, participating in group exhibits and workshops.

My focus

My camera encourages me to slow down and take a closer look at my surroundings.  As a result, I am often amazed at what I see. I enjoy the challenge of capturing those images, often as nature close-ups. Photography refills my cup. Sharing my images with others multiples the joy.Whether photographing gardens, elusive bubbles or butterflies, I hope to capture everyday beauty that conveys the sense of wonder I often feel, and portrays how extraordinary the ordinary can be.
